Sam Vállay is a painter and collage artist based in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. She received her BFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in 2021. Her work has been exhibited in shows across New Jersey and Pennsylvania, as well as a collaborative project screened in Vienna, Austria. Sam finds her inspiration in the forest- literally! Ethically foraging for dead bugs, cicada wings, wildflowers, bones, and fallen leaves- even roadkill- is part of her artistic process. She also studies the movements of trapeze artists and ballet dancers, utilizing their gestures and expressions as a template for each fairy’s pose. Greatly influenced by the fascination of oddities and spiritualism in the Victorian and Edwardian era, Sam aims to have each piece tell a story that awakens the whimsy in us all.
Besides creating art, Sam's other interests include gaming, reading mystery novels, cooking new recipes, antiquing with friends, watching movies and anime, hiking, creative writing, and chilling with her cat, Mushi. 🐈⬛
